Committee

Hempsted Playgroup and Toddlers is run by a committee of volunteers. The committee is an important and essential part of the life of the playgroup and is made up of parents who wish to contribute to the running of the playgroup.

The activities of the committee fall into two broad categories; the management of the playgroup and fundraising for the playgroup.

Management

The committee meet with the supervisors and staff to review and make decisions about matters concerning the playgroup, such as staffing, health and safety, budgeting, purchasing of new equipment, special events etc.

Fundraising

Preschools receive very little public funding. We rely on fees and fundraising to provide all the wonderful activities. Fundraising is necessary to provide essentials for the playgroup and those extras, such as the Christmas Party, new equipment, books, toys, staff training, supplies for Christmas, Easter and special project activities.

Because our children's time at playgroup is short, each year the committee needs to recruit new members to assist with these tasks. It can be rewarding to feel more involved with your child's playgroup, to feel you are contributing to a successful playgroup and learning more about it.

If you’ve got the time, we have a job for you.

As volunteers you can give the gift of your time, talents, creativity and energy to help with the fundraising events. Equally important to our efforts is the support provided by local businesses and contributors.

If you are interested in joining the committee, or just interested in joining in with the fund-raising activities, mention it to one of the Playgroup leaders. We welcome your support.

We welcome volunteers for the committee. Please consider whether you have the skills and interest to get involved - if you don't, it's a great place to learn them and get to meet other parents at the same time.

What does the Committee do?

The playgroup has become much more than a place to socialize your children before they start school. There are OFSTED inspections, a curriculum of early learning goals and many layers of affiliations for funding and accreditation.

The playgroup staff, Sharon, Jane, Amy, Holley and Jodie do a huge amount of work outside of the classroom to co-ordinate all of this.  The Chairperson of the management committee is the main contact for the various authorities.  The Secretary organizes committee meetings and minutes them, writes the newsletter and any other letters as needed. The Treasurer keeps up with the preschool finances and liaises with the accountant.

Another big part of the committee's job is fundraising. There are various other roles within the committee that require less of a commitment. In order to work efficiently, the playgroup requires a minimum of twelve people to volunteer to help it run. It is a great way to know what's going on with your children and to feel you are helping the community at large.

All members of the staff and committee are checked through the criminal records bureau.

If you would like to join the committee or if you have any fund-raising ideas please get in touch with the Supervisors and come along to a meeting - we look forward to meeting you!
